As we aware that the North-Eastern part of India is characterized with its immense trove of traditional wisdom, diversed culture & tradition, different ranges of rural products of handloom, cane & bamboo, processed products etc. Inspite of the huge potentiality of this region, still this region is economically backward. This may be due to the lack of exposure, or interference of middleman, or maybe unaware of scientific production techniques. In other words, it may need a specific treatment pertaining to its diverse tradition and culture. Though the Government of India as well as State Governments of the region has taken several schemes for the promotion of different rural products, through supply of technical support, design improvement, commercial intelligence, entrepreneurial support, marketing (emporia), yet this sector is not geared up in compliance with its potentiality. Now it is learnt that one of the main drawbacks is the lack of coordination among the various agencies who have been working in this sector.

Having worked in this region since 1994-95, Centre for Rural Development (CRD) has rightly understood the need to focus this aspect and initiated a audacious step to improve the standard of rural products and their operational linkages by developing a strong marketing network of different NGOs, CBOs, SHGs and individual rural artisans.

In this context, CRD has initiated a network viz. Marketing Associates of Non-Governmental Organization (MANGO) for marketing of the rural products. CRD appeals all conscious NGOs, CBOs, SHGs and rural artisans to join hands in this network.

Objectives:

Ø To explore the potential products of unorganised sectors of India for National & International marketing.
Ø To develop a platform to discuss the problems & prospects in rural marketing.
Ø To develop and channelise a scientific marketing network for better linkages.
